PS3 questions (rumored stuff)?

I heard a few months ago that SONY was coming out with a PS3 peripheral that would allow gamers to play PS2 games on their PS3 via the adapter. Is this true or not? I checked out the Playstation.com news when I heard about it, but it doesn't seem like there have been any yet.
