Default What's all these rumours about the ps3 about!?

I hear crap like the 40gb system is not backward compatible at all for ps1 and ps2 games. I also hear that sony is only manufacturing the 40gb systems now which sounds like a load of crap. Whats the truth and whats crap!? Are the 80gb systems even being made anymore? and if they're not then do the 60gb systems have all the features that the 80 gb has minus the extra 20 gigs of storage? If a playstation enthusiast that works at a gameshop answers you will easily get best answer.
It sounds like the new 80gb system is the only way to go then. that sucks now i gotta wait forever for it to come out the wait for the hype to die down so i can actually get it without any problems. But let me get this straight; so the 60gb system has the weekest hardware of them all then? or does it have both the old and new hardware? I just want to be sure not to get something i don't want if i find something on ebay or something like that. And why did they stop making the 80gb for awhile? I hope r n d and nate check back and answer these q's too.

the 40GB does not play PS2 games but it does play PS1 games. sony is only selling the 40GB now but they are manufacturing the 80GB now as we speak. sony will re-release the 80GB on June 12 and it will be bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4 and a dualshock3 controller. the only difference between the 80GB and the 60GB is the 80GB gets its backwards compatibility via software and the 60GB gets it via hardware

Whilst all models of the PS3 are backwards compatible with the PS1 Sony removed the PS2's GPU (Graphics Synthesizer) from the 40GB model which means it cannot play any PS2 games. Nor is it upgradable.

The 80GB model will be available as part of the MGS4 bundle (include MGS4, Dualshock 2 and the 80GB console).

The 60GB model (discontinued) actually has more features than the 80GB model. It has both the PS2's GPU, and it's CPU (rather than just the GPU). This means its compatibility with PS2 titles is higher.
