How can I improve my internet connection for CoD MW2 for PS3?

I live in Puerto Rico and I use Liberty Cablevision as an Internet Provider. I have my PS3 connected (not wireless) to the modem. All I want to do is play Modern Warfare 2 but it's hard to connect to a game! I'm not sure what is my problem but can someone help!

If your connected directly to the modem... then theres nothing you can do except call up your ISP and start paying for more bandwidth...
