No you can use it on any standard sd television with audio and video outputs but an HD tv or Plasma or something will be breathtaking graphics but SD is still good aswell.

you can play a ps3 on a standard tv that has video/audio inputs. but to truly take advantage of a good gaming experience you would need a hdtv (plasma, lcd,etc).
