Default Xbox 360 slowly more unable to read disks?

So I've gone through 3 Xboxes in 4 years. The first was RROD but the last two start having problems reading disks (games, movies and music equally) and eventually stop reading altogether. They've all broken 2-5 months after my MS warrenty voids, of course! I feel I take care of my systems, cleaning frequently and never letting dust settle, especially around the vents. Any suggestions on if I'm doing something wrong or is this common? Also, it seems the price of repair at a local shop tends to run the same amount as buying a used xbox from GameStop. What the hell? Going to buy my 4th Xbox all while my very well used (original) PS2 still works pretty good. Am I the only one with this problem?
