Getting your console online is easy as pie if you have the correct equipment.
First of all: How is your computer going online? Look at the device that connects your PC online. Does it have more than one ethernet port?
If yes, congratulations. You have a router. Just use the provided network cable you got with your console to connect the console with the router. If the cable is too short, buy a longer ethernet (CAT5 or better) patch cable from your local computer store.
You are already done.
If your device only has ONE ethernet port, and your PC is already using that, you have a broadband modem.
The expensive but recommended method is, to buy a router and follow the instructions above.
If you don't want or can't afford a router, your PC needs to have two network ports. Buy a second network card, if necessary.
Connect your Xbox console to your PC's second network card and use the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard (search the Windows help for this) to get your console online via your PC.
A detailed instruction to get Live is also listed below.
