ps3 says connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button?

it is the 2ed time this has happen the last time it just reset by its self and work just fine till last night and i would like to know what is wrong with and and if possible something that will it fix it or should i do what it says. it said to re-update the ps3 using a usb device.
