How do I get my PS3 to recognize my USB storage device, and my camera?

It won't allow anything to connect, or it says it doesn't recognize it, or that there are no pictures on it (storage).
............ Wow... Really? I didn't know that. I can't even download them because the PS3 won't recognize them. =/ L2Read
