Along with most other people, i prefer the xbox 360, it is the first game console i got for a good reason, the ps3 controller is much too light, especially without a cord weighing it down like the ps2 had. The Xbox 360's analog sticks might feel weird if you are used to a smaller controller but once you get used to it you'll notice your fingers rest naturally in that position as opposed to the ps3 where your hands are scrunched together, Plus it's analog sticks are much more responsive and its worth the money much more because it doesn't break as easily. Me and my friend both purchased different game consoles at roughly the same time, My original controller that came with my Xbox is still working fine while his ps3 controller"s" both have a bit of drift, such as when its idle the character will move forwards. And lastly if you're playing with the ps3 controller, likes are there wont be any rumble, This could be annoying or helpful but its really up to you because no matter what you can shut it off even with an xbox controller. But overall i think you should go with the Xbox controller, its more durable and is made of higher grade materials. And remember this, you can always buy a different brand than sony for a ps3 controller, Gamestop and some other places make heavier more spread out versions.
