Yes it can work on the PC. You need the Sixaxis driver. The one that I use is called "libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1" and it should come together with a binary file called "ps3sixaxis_en". Once you have these run the "libusb" file first to install the driver. Once that is done it might ask you to restart your PC, I can't remember if it did or not.
Go and switch off your PS3 from the back to prevent it from turning on while you're doing the next step which would be to plug in your Sixaxis into your PC via USB cable (Bluetooth requires more complicated procedure and its more trouble than its worth.) If your Sixaxis starts blinking really fast wait until it shuts down again, don't unplug it from your PC. Then run the "ps3sixaxis_en" file. A black window will pop up and disappear real quick, its just activating your Sixaxis to make it work on the PC. Kinda like syncing it with your PC instead of your PS3.
Then just go to your Control Panel and select Game Controllers (on Vista). You should see the Sixaxis listed on there. Select Properties and push a button to see if your PC has detected it. If nothing shows up on the screen, push the PS button and see if it registers on your screen. It should work if done everything correctly. Then just run a game and see if you can use your new controller to play with it. The button configuration is done in-game.
If you can't find the necessary files send me an email and I'll transfer them to you. Hope it helps.
