my ps3 does not pick up my portable hard drive when i plug it in whats wrong?

i just bought a iomega portable hard drive but my ps3 wont read it

just download the firmware from eu.playstation.com and load it on any media other than the hdd u are inserting in the ps3.then format the ex-hdd into fat32 using a software called"swissknife".insert the hdd and turn on the ps3 insert the media containing the frmware,then press start or select i am not sure which one then install the firmware.after it is normal like setting up a new ps3.goodluck

Well from my experience, the PS3 doesn't really recognize NTFS formatted external HDDs. Try reformatting it in FAT32. Googling it seemed to suggest the same thing...

Remember, the whole drive doesn't need to be FAT32, just the partition you want to use with your PS3.
