My PS3 controller defective?

I have a charger port with 2 slots. charging PS3 controllers. Today, it was green (which means it's fully charged) and I took it off and it said the battery was critical. I tried charging it with my USB charger (That came with the PS3) and it didn't even know it was charging. What's going on?
