Is there a way of recovering hard drive data from a YLOD' PS3, Sony say

no,was wondering if anyone could help? As said in the description, my PS3 has died via YLOD (Yellow light of death) which I hear is a very common fault, and I was wondering if there was any way to retrieve my save data from the hard drive, as have spent literally days on some of the games! Absolutly not! Your PS3 is practicaly formatted!

no , you need to already have a backup or be able to turn it on to create one .

there is a very slim chance , but it would require you to buy a hard drive same size and brand ( or if you've changed the hdd reinstall the original ) . after it's sent for repairs they format it and sometimes you get a different console back but if you insist on getting yours back and already have your hdd - which is formatted to the console - you can swap drives without needing to format again and not lose data
