you've tried pressing the PS button once you've unplugged it?
cos it's not connecting via wireless when you've got it plugged in, unplugging it will turn it off. it's the same as when you've got it connected wirelessly but turn the ps3 off - it loses connection. you should just be able to press/hold the PS button after you've unplugged, it'll then connect again, and the lights will go on
